A TEAM of University of York students have designed a new video game that could soon be in the home of millions.

Joni Levinkind, Pedro Custodio and and Fynn Levy are the architects behind the game, Yellow Rock Road, which involves players taking on the role of a time travelling band and players must tap two buttons to keep in time with the music.

The game recently won the Tranzfuser award, a government video game development contest where graduates pit their original video games against one another to win £25,000 from the UK Games Fund.

Over the summer, Tranzfuser gave 17 teams from across the UK £5,000 andjust ten weeks to develop their idea for a game from concept to playable demo.

Deborah Farley, head of talent and outreach at UK Games Fund, said: “Congratulations to our winning team Mujo Games for their game Yellow Rock Road.”

Mujo Games, the company name of the trio, have been working on the game for two years.

Programmer, Joni, said that the award had given them a financial boost and allowed them to start on new projects.

The team met in the first year of university. Joni, who studies computer science, is the brains behind the design of the game whilst musician, Pedro has provided the musical arrangements for the game.

The final member, Fynn studies English Literature at the university and has designed the visual features of the game.

In a statement, the team said: “Winning Tranzfuser has opened so many opportunities for our team, and we really hope to make the most of them.

“We are all incredibly excited to find out what the future holds.

“All of our team members have gained a range of skills from game development to management, marketing, and financial planning.

“We have learnt so much and feel more confident in our ability to succeed as independent developers within the games industry.”
