TWO people have been taken to hospital following a crash on the A59 near York.

North Yorkshire Police and crews from North Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Service were at the scene of a crash between Moor Monkton and Kirk Hammerton.

A police spokeswoman said the crash was reported at 11.40am and involved two vehicles, with only minor injuries reported.

York Press:

A spokesman for the fire service said crews from Acomb and Huntington were dealing with a three-vehicle crash, and were cutting occupants free from a vehicle.

He said: "Two people have been released from cars by crews using cutting equipment and small tools.

"One female and one male taken to hospital via road ambulance."

The road was blocked in both directions, and drivers are advised to avoid the area if possible.
