POCKLINGTON Arts Centre is running the "art competition of your dreams" to mark the arrival of Talegate Theatre’s pantomime Sleeping Beauty on Sunday, December 16.

Budding artists aged four to 11 have the chance to win a pair of tickets –one adult, one child – for the 2.30pm performance by entering the Sleeping Beauty-themed competition. The second and third prize will each be pair of PAC cinema ticket for a film of their choice, and the best entries will be exhibited.

Please note, there are two age categories: age four to seven and eight to 11, with a top, second and third place prize available in each category. "All you have to do is create a picture inspired by the story of Sleeping Beauty; perhaps one of your favourite characters or a best-loved scene from the story," says PAC director Janet Farmer. "It can be done in any media you like, including pencil, pens, paints, ink or collage. Let your imagination work its magic."

Sleeping Beauty promises to be Pocklington Arts Centre's "funniest and most spectacular pantomime ever". Packed with songs, slapstick, silliness and audience participation, Sleeping Beauty tells the tale of Prince Valentine defeating the evil fairy, Malevola, and waking Sleeping Beauty with a true love kiss.

"You know Christmas isn’t far away when we start gearing up for our pantomime, and with all the fairy-tale magic and fun of Talegate Theatre’s Sleeping Beauty, this production looks set to be one of our best ever, so what better way to celebrate than with a creative competition?" says Janet. " We can't wait to see everyone’s artistic entries, so good luck all and we’ll see you here on December 16 for our pantomime."

Here are the rules: the picture must be no bigger than A4 sized and requires the name and age of the child and a contact telephone number or email address for a parent or guardian to be written on the reverse. Entries should be posted to Sara Morton, Pocklington Arts Centre, Market Place, Pocklington, York, YO42 2AR or dropped into the box office by the closing date of Wednesday, December 5 at 12 noon.

Tickets are selling fast, so prompt booking is advised on 01759 301547 or at pocklingtonartscentre.co.uk. Sleeping Beauty is definitely on December 16, and not December 9, as originally stated in the autumn season brochure.
