YORK'S St Leonard's Hospice will be getting people into the festive spirit this weekend when it holds its annual Christmas Fair.

Although the event is historically held at the hospice itself on Tadcaster Road, this year it will take place at the Railway Institute on Hamilton Drive from noon to 4pm on Saturday.

It will also take place on the same day as the hospice’s Santa Dash, which starts from 10am at the same venue.

As well as festive refreshments, there will be games and prizes, a tombola and a raffle, plus entertainment from a choir and from ‘Perform’ with Emma Bassett, and an appearance from Father Christmas on his sleigh.

Entry for children is free, and just a £1 donation for adults, with all funds raised going towards the hospice’s running costs.

The Christmas Fair will run alongside the hospice’s Santa Dash for the first time.

People can don their Santa suits and dash, skip, hop or stroll around the grounds of York Railway Institute.

Participants have a choice of one lap, two laps or a 5km route. Registration is from 10am and the dash starts at 11am.

Event organiser, Sarah Atkinson, said: “We’d love to see lots of people on November 24 – there’s loads going on so please join us for a festive fun day to raise funds for the hospice, and please note the location change. Planning is in full flow, and the summer events have depleted our stock of raffle and tombola prizes so if anyone has unwanted bottles or items to donate that would be much appreciated too.”
