ONE of York’s oldest pubs now has one of the city’s youngest landladies.

Steff McGurk, 23, who initially moved to York from Bridlington to study business management at York St John University, has worked at The Ackhorne for two and a half years and has now taken over as its live-in manager.

An inn since 1782, The Ackhorne, in St Martin’s Lane off Micklegate, is described by Steff as a “community-centric pub with a focus on real ale”.

It has two permanent ales and three rotating guest ales, plus British and foreign lagers and a selection of wines and spirits. It also stages quizzes on Thursdays and Sundays, games nights on Mondays, and various other events as announced on its Facebook page.
