PEOPLE travelling to York to enjoy the Christmas market or celebrations have been urged to ensure they are 'fit to travel' home this year.
North Yorkshire Police said the York City Neighbourhood team are again working in partnership with British Transport Police and TransPennine Express this year to check people aren't too drunk to travel.
A spokesman for the force said the "fit to travel" policy would be in place every Saturday evening in coming weeks for services leaving York railway station.
He said: "If you are planning on visiting York in the run up to Christmas, please ensure that you comply with this policy. Otherwise you may find that you are denied travel home.
"The York City Neighbourhood Police welcomes everyone who visits the beautiful, historic city of York and enjoys their stay, whilst respecting those who work and live in the city."
