YORK singer-songwriter Benjamin Francis Leftwich will play the biggest concert of his career at York Minster on March 29 next year.

That month, Leftwich, 29, will release his as-yet-untitled third album on the Dirty Hit label, and already you can stream the video for his new single Gratitude at dirtyhit.lnk.to/gratitude.

His 7.30pm Minster concert has been organised by York concert promoters Please Please You and Ouroboros, alias Joe Coates and Harkirit Boparai, in tandem with The Crescent community venue in York and Leeds Brudenell Social Club.

"After lots of work scurrying behind the scenes over the last few months, we at The Crescent have teamed up with our friends at Brudenell Social Club in Leeds to present a very special show for Benjamin Francis Leftwich in York’s grandest venue," says Joe.

"Ben was born and grew up in York, he is a friend of mine and has been playing venues I have worked in for the past ten years. Running a gig in York Minster is a pretty exciting thing to do; the opportunity arose a few months ago and it’s perfect for this former Bootham School chap. Working in a building like this has its obstacles, of course, but we’re expecting it to be a very memorable event for York."

This will be the only Yorkshire concert of Leftwich's 18-date March and April tour of Britain and Ireland, with tickets going on sale from 10am on Friday at £15. They will be available in person from The Crescent and Earworm Records, in Powells Yard, Goodramgate, York, Jumbo Records and the Brudenell Social Club in Leeds, at thecrescentyork.com and seetickets.com/event/benjamin-francis-leftwich/york-minster/1288073 or at £18 on the door. More tour details can be be found at benjaminfrancisleftwich.com.

Leftwich follows in the footsteps of The Divine Comedy's Neil Hannon in May 2011, singer-songwriter Laura Marling in October 2011 and north eastern folk group The Unthanks, with the Brighouse and Rastrick Band, in August 2012, in playing at York Minster.

Leftwich, who now lives in North London, will bring more electronic elements into play on his new album, combined with darker, intricately layered production, while still maintaining the raw emotion that has resonated throughout his work to date. Previously he released the 100,000-selling Last Smoke Before The Snowstorm in 2011 and After The Rain in 2016.

He first played in York at the age of 13 at Fibbers and last performed in his home city at The Crescent in May 2016, since when he has appeared at the Platform Festival at The Old Station, Pocklington, in July 2017.

Full "special guest" support billing will be announced in due course.
