MEMBERS of York's Liberal Jewish Community are inviting anyone with an interest in Judaism and Jewish worship to join them for their Shabbat - or Sabbath - service on Saturday.
The service, to be attended by York Central MP Rachel Maskell and the Lord Mayor, takes place at 11am at the Friends Meeting House in Friargate as part of National Interfaith Week.
It will include a reading from the community’s hand-written Torah scroll, which was rescued from the Holocaust by Prague’s Jewish Community, and will be led by Student Rabbi Gabriel Webber, who is acting Rabbi for the York community.
On the following day, members of the community will be collecting food and groceries from 11am until 5pm outside Sainsbury’s store in Foss Bank for the York Foodbank and Carecent, as part of Mitzvah Day, the Jewish national day of volunteering.
