WORK to improve access to a cycle network in York has been highlighted in a national report.
A review of the National Cycle Network - 16,500 miles of cycle and walking routes - by Sustrans, a charity making it easier for people to walk and cycle, says work on Foss Islands path has really helped people who are less active to get mobile.
A spokeswoman for the charity said: "Nationally we have audited all cycle and walking routes. 54 per cent are good/very good and 46 per cent are poor or very poor.
"Since the barriers have been taken up on Foss Islands it is being held up as a great example of what we would like to do nationally."
"There are also several other routes in York such as Solar System Way, which are of a good standard, but we think there is still room for a lot of improvements in York and we can provide an interviewee who can discuss specific examples."
