IT seems ironic that the toilet block in St Sampson’s Square is finally going to be knocked down (York public toilets to be demolished, November 8).
One reason is it’s not in keeping with the historic area.
Well, anyone could have told the council that. But £52,000 to demolish?
Someone will be making a fortune.
If it took two weeks to get rid of the fountain down the road this job will take two months.
Is that why it costs so much?

Why not reuse the St Sampson's toilet block?
SO City of York Council cannot find the money to fix our poor roads and pavements but it can find £52,000 - yes, that’s £52,000 - to demolish a perfectly good building in St Sampson’s Square and replace it with an electric and water supply point for temporary events (York public toilets to be demolished, November 8).
Just what is wrong with keeping the building for that use?
It will look a lot better than a metal cabinet with wires and pipes running out of it.
