STREETS near York Minster were cordoned off for several hours this afternoon amid concerns for the welfare of a man on scaffolding at the cathedral.
North Yorkshire Police said officers attended at 2pm and a cordon was put in place while the incident was dealt with.
Police tape was put up on Minster Gates, Deangate and on the road next to St Michael le Belfrey Church.
The force urged people to avoid the area while specially-trained officers worked at the scene.
Firefighters were also called to the scene.
Shortly after 6pm the force confirmed that the incident had been "brought to a safe conclusion" and the cordon had been lifted.
The force tweeted: "We are arranging for the man involved to get the support he needs."
