A SCHOOL in York has identified former pupils who fought and died in the First World War.
St Peter's undertook research which identified 67 pupils who fought, where they served and the circumstances of their death.
The school will be holding a remembrance service for pupils, parents and staff along with a military representations from the York Cadet Force, when the 67 names will be read out.
Acting head teacher Alistair Dunn said: “The research was done by our two archivists who went through a number of sources including the Peterite.
“We found that several of our previous students fought in East Africa, the battle of Somme, the battle of Mons and the battle of Ypres, where some of our pupils fell.
“We are delighted that several descendants will be attending our remembrances service on Sunday as a fitting tribute to them.”
Meanwhile, all pupils at St Olave’s School created their own ceramic poppy during art lessons as part of their Armistice commemorations, and Clifton School and Nursery held a special assembly about the Armistice.
