SELBY Indoor Bowls Club's home fires burned at they beat New Earswick 107-70 in the Deny Plate.

New Earswick's two home rinks both won to build a 10-shot advantage but it was all Selby at their place.

At Earswick, the home quartet of Paul Murray, Brian Birch, Colin Pickup and Bill Waldie led J Pickles, J Mouncer, I Robb and M Hughes 9-1 after five ends before trailing 11-10 after 11.

They won five of the next seven ends, though, including two fours, and hung on to win 22-17.

Earswick's other home rink of John Harrison, Dave Sykes, Rod Walker and Brian Gray also led 9-1 and, while Selby's E Addison, C Watson, G Pearson and J Phillips came back into it and finished strongly, the hosts won 23-18.

At Selby, though, Bob Elliot, Dave Kermode, Andrew Fothergill and Kevin Liddell were defeated 30-11 by A Rucklidge, A Mouser, L Hancock and M Mansell, despite trailing only 12-9 after 11 ends.

Andy Humphreys, Mick Head, Ralph Tiplady and Paul Dawson picked up a six at their 11th end but lost 42-14 to M Harwood, G Whitehorn, P Lund and R Wood, who scored three fives in the first seven and a six and a four in a big finish.
