FIRE crews dealt with two bonfires that had grown out of control in North Yorkshire yesterday evening (November 5).

One of the bonfires was on Hinderwell Road in Scarborough, which crews were called to at around 5.15pm.

They used a hose reel to get the flames under control.

Firefighters were called to another out of control bonfire in Sneaton near Whitby at around 6.05pm and used a hose reel to dampen the area surrounding the bonfire to prevent the flames spreading.

Meanwhile, North Yorkshire fire service received a report of a bonfire in the open on York Road, in Barlby, near Selby.

The bonfire was out when crews arrived.

As well as these incidents, the fire service said it received "many calls" that turned out to be bonfires due to Bonfire Night.
