A WALL of more than a thousand handmade poppies has been created by residents of a Selby village.
Cawood Parish Council suggested marking the centenary of the end of the First World War this November, and members of the Monday Craft Group volunteered to help.
The woollen poppies were knitted and crocheted to form two displays in Cawood, including one in the village’s memorial garden next to the church.
Villagers also volunteered to help create poppies for both displays, with work starting in March.
The wall of poppies is now on display at the junction of Wistowgate, Broad Lane and Thorpe Lane, and in amongst the red traditional poppies are purple ones to commemorate millions of fallen animals, mainly horses, from the conflict.
