FIREFIGHTERS have cut free a 'casualty' from the wreckage of a car in Acomb - with the incident filmed from above by The Press.
The drama was part of an open day today at Acomb fire station, attended by scores of local residents.
Chief Reporter Mike Laycock ascended to 30 feet above the ground in an aerial ladder platform with Firefighter Andy Buzzer to video the demonstration from the air.
Crews used hydraulic cutting gear to cut off the roof from the wreckage of a car lying on its side, and free a female firefighter posing as a casualty of the crash.
Earlier, children enjoyed rides around the back of the fire station in a mini fire engine, complete with siren.
