I refer to the £4.8m spend on the improvement of Scarborough Bridge (The Press, October 24).
I use the bridge quite regularly myself to walk to the station. Yes, it’s not ideal for the infirm, pushchairs or cyclists. But I can say the tarmac surface across the bridge is in far better condition than many other surfaces on York’s roads. One of these is Wigginton Terrace, which is quite simply a ‘patchwork quilt’ full of craters and getting worse by the day.
How many square metres of pot holes could be properly repaired with this £4.8m? Surely a far better and more critical use of this money.
