SPARK: York, in Piccadilly, is holding a celebration weekend of live music and spooky Halloween events from Friday to Sunday to launch its winter season.

Spark:York Take Cover! additionally marks the arrival of the state-of-the-art roof designed to keep visitors cosy over the colder months ahead, kicking off with DJ and producer Jazzy Jeff on Friday evening, when doors open at 6.30pm and entry is free.

On Sunday, MilesTone Films hosts the Zomblogalypse Halloween Party as zombies take over Spark! to celebrate the tenth anniversary of the York filmmakers' cult web series and newly completed feature film, Zomblogalypse.

The full day of Halloween fun begins with a family-friendly, bring-your-own-pumpkin-and-knife carving and Halloween decorating event from 1pm to 5pm. All children must be accompanied by an adult, who will be responsible for their own pumpkin carving.

The free evening party from 7pm is not child-friendly, instead providing visitors with the chance to dress up in their finest Halloween gear – whether zombies or otherwise – and dance the night away with the cast and crew of Zomblogalypse.

One&Other Creative and Zomblogalypse co-director Miles Watts says: "Everyone is welcome. We're going to be dousing ourselves in Halloween spirit all day as we carve pumpkins and put up spooky decorations. There'll be a walk-in cinema room where you can watch episodes of the web series, see our new film trailer and buy the film poster.

"We think you'll want to own that poster, as it's very old school and Eighties, so if you're a fan of horror paintings and Drew Struzan, you'll dig the Zomblog poster."

The Zomblogalypse party also promises horror make-up demonstrations, a zombie flash mob, a Zombie prom booth and live music by Drooligan, Dead Drummer and Dead Naked Hippies.

As a Community Interest Company, Spark:York will reinvest all profits from this weekend into activities that benefit the York community.
