A TRIAL of a new rapid dry eco-paint could reduce power cuts in the region, it has been claimed.

Northern Powergrid is the UK’s first electricity operator to take part in trials of the paint.

The thinner, water-based paint uses fewer raw materials, dries at lower temperatures and has a faster drying time, reducing the need for downtime and reliance on a back-up supply while a transformer is out of action.

It also needs a thinner coat, reducing raw materials by up to a third.
