YORK is set to shiver in the first cold snap of the autumn, with an Arctic blast set to sweep the region by the weekend.

After a period of unseasonably mild weather, forecasters expect northerly winds to lead to plummeting temperatures, with a maximum of only 8C by Saturday.

However, it should still be mostly dry and sunny, and sunshine is also likely over the next couple of days, with maximum temperatures of 15C in York tomorrow.
