ARMED officers and a police helicopter responded to reports of an alleged "violent threat" at a travellers' site in Ryedale.

North Yorkshire Police said it was alerted to the incident at the Tara Park travellers' site at Malton shortly before 9pm yesterday (October 21).

The attending officers were supported by the Firearms Support Unit and a police helicopter, the force added.

A spokesman for North Yorkshire Police commented: "The group responsible for the alleged threats had already made off from the area when police arrived at 9.08pm.

"Officers conducted a number of inquiries at the site in order to ensure that all occupants were safe.

"Reassurance patrols and enhanced engagement with the residents is taking place while inquiries continue into the incident."
