THE English language is a wonderful thing, full of the same word having more than one meaning, and words sounding the same but spelt differently and having different meanings.
It must be one of the hardest languages for non-natives to learn how to speak and write (wright, rite, right?).
A letter on fracking (Letters, October 16) included the phrase ‘redolent again of cognitive dissonance’. No, me neither.
When trying to make a point, surely using such pretentious language mystifies the reader?
