UNATTENDED cooking sparked a fire at a residential property in York early this morning, and firefighters escorted one person from inside.
North Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Service received a report of a smell of smoke and a fire alarm sounding at a property on Birstwith Drive shortly before 2am.
The service said that fire crews attended and found a smoke-logged property due to a fire involving cooking left unattended.
One person was walked out of the property by the crews.
Firefighters put out the flames and cleared the smoke using a positive pressure ventilation fan.
