A CAFE in York has offered local dads a free coffee if they carry their children in a sling of papoose this weekend.
The Press Kitchen in Walmgate made the offer after breakfast television presenter Piers Morgan criticised James Bond actor Daniel Craig on social media for carrying his baby daughter in a chest sling, and referred to him as "#EmasculatedBond".
Following the so-called 'dad-shaming', many took to social media to support the use of slings, and Paul Gamble, general manager of The Press Kitchen, said he wanted to do his part.
On Thursday, the cafe said any dad bringing their child into the venue in a sling would receive a free coffee, and the offer was so successful, it was extended until Sunday.
Paul said: "I saw the tweet the other day from quite a well-known broadcaster criticising dads who like to carry their children in what he calls a papoose, but a normal person would call a sling or a carrier.
"We've got a lot of families coming in, a lot of young dads with children, so we just thought it would be a nice thing to do just to show a bit of solidarity for York dads to offer a complimentary coffee."
Paul, who used carriers for both his children, said the response had been so positive the offer had been extended until Sunday.
