ARMED police swooped on a city address and arrested a man on suspicion of possession of a firearm with intent to cause fear of violence, it has been confirmed.
The raid took place at about 4.50pm on Tuesday, at Graig Wood Close, in Newport.
Officers from Gwent Police taped off the street while the operation was carried out.
Terence Tippins, who lives on the nearby Graig Park Road, said he witnessed the incident.
"There were a number of police vehicles and armed police on the street," he added.
"I spoke to a neighbour, who had been walking his dog down the street when police turned up. He was told it was something to do with guns.
"There were three police cars and a police van, as well as the armed police and some other vehicles.
"I was told they had arrested somebody too."
A spokesman for Gwent Police confirmed the operation had taken place.
"Officers received reports of a disturbance at an address in Graig Wood Close in Newport at around 4.50pm on Tuesday,October 16.
"Officers attended and a 31-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of possession of a firearm with intent to cause fear of violence. He has been released on police bail."
