WORK on the York Community Stadium project is charging full steam ahead, with a great deal of progress being made on the west stand.

Contractors have been raising the roof on the north stand at the site and a seating deck and cantilever steel roof beams have been added to the east stand.

A drone video has been released of the developments made at the site over the summer months - including the facades being added to the cinema and leisure complex.

A spokesman for the project writing on Twitter said progress is “fantastic” and the work on the west stand is “particularly impressive”.

A topping out ceremony took place at the stadium last month as all the organisations involved in the scheme gathered to mark reaching a milestone in the project.

Work is progressing at a pace on the 8,000 seat community stadium, leisure centre and cinema complex and the next steps will see a glass facade installed on the building, with the road around the site due to be complete within two months.

The site will feature a gym, a swimming pool, gym, dance studio, climbing facilities and a sports hall.

NHS outpatient services will also be offered on site and there will be a new library and York Against Cancer retail unit. The cinema is set to have 13 screens and an IMAX. There will also be five restaurants and up to three new retail units.

Permission has also been given by the City of York Council for York City to create a ‘City Wall’ at the Monks Cross venue and it will be situated within the south/south-east corner of the arena, with the intention to celebrate the passion and loyalty of the club’s supporters. The stadium and leisure complex is due to be complete by May 2019 and the site is set to open to the public in July. Leisure company GLL will be responsible overall for running the complex and York City have set up a company for the daily management.
