A LOCAL community street party has raised £300 for a charity for sick children.

Residents at David Wilson Homes' Saxon Gate development in Stamford Bridge recently hosted their first street party in aid of Great Ormond Street Hospital.

The event was organised to give residents the chance to get to know their neighbours and saw more than 60 guests enjoy an afternoon of fun family activities.

The site's developers organised an ice cream van, which provided free ice creams for the afternoon, and donated a hamper from York tearoom, Betty's, for the raffle.

Organiser Heather Gill, said: "We're delighted that Saxon Gate residents raised such a fantastic amount.

"It was a wonderful opportunity to get to know al of our neighbours and we hope that this will be the first of many."

Leonna Hardcastle, sales manager at David Wilson Homes, added: "It really shows the wonderful community spirit that we have her on the development, which will only increase as we welcome more residents."
