A LOCAL confectioner is planning to give York city centre a surprise makeover this week.

On Friday, York's Chocolate Story will be turning six benches into six iconic sweets from the city's chocolate-making past.

The aim is to raise awareness of York's rich confectionary heritage, as well as celebrating Chocolate Week, which runs until October 21.

The benches that will be transformed by York's Chocolate Story, based in Kings Square, are in Deangate, close to the Minster.

Chocolate Week is the UK's biggest annual celebration of all things chocolate and is now in its 14th year.
