A FIRE that destroyed a B&M store in York is not thought to be suspicious, firefighters have confirmed.

Investigations are continuing into the cause of the blaze at the Clifton Moor store at the weekend.

The fire, which is believed to have started in the storage yard of the shop, broke out on Saturday at 4.30pm, with flames taking hold of the building and thick smoke drifting onto the outer ring road causing the A1237 roundabout to be closed.

In a statement North Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Service said investigators at this stage do not believe the fire to be suspicious.

A spokesman said: “Crews are continuing to visit the store with fire investigations ongoing.”
