A GO-KARTING centre based at Monks Cross is planning to open an on-site restaurant overlooking York Community Stadium.

York Motor Sports Village has applied for planning permission to build a two-storey extension featuring a fish and chip shop takeaway, a restaurant, offices and a new entrance foyer.

The venue already has a licensed bar and small catering facilities but planning documents say: "Restaurant and take-away retailers are proving successful in this business park, and with the new Community Sports Stadia underway, the market for food retail will naturally grow.

"The proposals offer a bold new addition and re-facing to the building frontage, with a new restaurant and take-away, together with improved entrance into the existing venue and better offices to serve the current business."

The takeaway would be built on the ground floor and the restaurant would be built on the first floor, with windows overlooking the new stadium. And a "striking new frontage" would be installed at the entrance to the building. The karting centre also has virtual reality racing simulators and was named visitor attraction of the year at the 2014 Visit York Tourism Awards.
