NOW I’m not one to be a spoilsport and put the kibosh on the latest marathon to be run in York or to want to dampen the fantastic amount of money raised for all the charities. The bad weather did that.

However, has anyone calculated the cost to the environment of all the traffic disruption, with road closures causing massive tailbacks and stationary vehicles around the city?

I would imagine the cost to far outweigh the benefits of the marathon, though I would leave it to someone from the university to do an accurate analysis.

Roll on the nine day 2019 bike race for more road closures and traffic jams and for more pollution to the environment.
