A SHERBURN schoolboy had his hair cut to raise funds for the Yorkshire Air Ambulance.
Dominic Sutton, 10, had his long locks shaved in an assembly at Hungate School, Sherburn-in-Elmet, last month.
His mother, Claire, said: “Dominic started to grow his hair in a longer style about three years ago, but earlier this year decided he would like it cut off. I suggested to him he could raise money for charity.”
A final decision was made when the family were out walking at Ingleborough and his uncle Chris suffered a heart attack. He was airlifted to LGI by the Yorkshire Air Ambulance and two hours later after completing the walk, they received a message that he had undergone an operation and had stents fitted.
Claire said: “Without the assistance of the air ambulance, we could have lost him. It saved his life.”
More than £700 was raised with donations from Monk Fryston Football Club and villagers and donations collected by the village Scout group, of which Dominic is a member, and from Hungate School pupils.
Dominic, who lives in Monk Fryston, said: “I spend less time in the shower now, but I may let it grow again and raise some more money.”
The cut was done by Alana Spink who works at a salon in Sherburn.
