STAFF at York's branch of Handelsbanken have raised more than £400 for a worthy cause.

Around 60 customers and members of the local business community joined bank staff for a coffee morning last week.

Whiteknights Yorkshire Blood Bikes, which provides an out of hours blood transportation service to NHS and local hospices, will benefit from the money.

The charity estimates that for every pound it receives in donations, it saves the NHS at least £5, which can provide funding for other frontline care.

Handelsbanken corporate manager, Kelvin Smith, who volunteers for the charity in his spare time, brought a blood bike into reception for the event.

Branch manager, Chris Ibbotson, said: "We are proud to be able to support a well-deserving local charity while bringing together our customers and local professionals."
