HEALTH and social care providers should treat lesbian, gay, bisexual, trans and other minority sexual orientation groups with equal respect, according to Healthwatch York.
The organisation carried out a survey, which found a third of participants experienced negative attitudes when using services.
They said negative attitudes experienced were across a range of health providers.
It recommended organisations improve equality and diversity training and ask people for their preferred name, use it and keep a record of it.
York LGBT Forum has developed a training programme and more information can be found at yorklgbtforum.org.uk/free-to-be-me.
