A RETIRED North Yorkshire head teacher has been convicted for the second time of having indecent pictures of children.

Rupert Doswell, prosecuting, said police twice found laptops containing the illegal images when they carried out routine checks on Terry Ladlow, 80.

He has been on the sex offenders' register since 2011 when he was jailed for six months for downloading 8,867 indecent pictures of children from the internet.

Ladlow, formerly of Hunmanby near Filey and now of Scarborough, pleaded guilty to three charges of possessing indecent images of children.

York Crown Court heard they were a small number and mostly of the lowest category of seriousness.

Giving him a 10-month prison sentence suspended for 18 months, Judge Simon Hickey said Ladlow's health had deteriorated significantly since his 2011 conviction.

The judge made a sexual harm prevention order aimed at preventing Ladlow from committing more similar offences.

Its provisions including allowing police to monitor his use of the internet and to instal special monitoring software on his computers.

For him, Glenn Parsons did not give any mitigation. Both barristers spoke to the judge together in his chamber before the hearing about Ladlow.

Ladlow will remain on the sex offenders' register for another ten years.

He spent 33 years as a primary school teacher in several counties, including 20 as a headteacher.

He moved to Hunmanby, North Yorkshire, in 2004 from Wetwang, near Driffield.

Ladlow is well-known for filmmaking work, including educational documentaries which he sold to schools and the British Council.
