YORK is one of the friendliest cities in the country, according to new data, but we're not quite as welcoming as we used to be.

A new report, Unbroken Britain, polled more than 2,500 Brits to find out exactly how residents felt about their home city, compared with 12 months ago.

The poll considered a range of topics such as friendliness, happiness and safety.

York was voted the seventh friendliest city in the UK, with a score of 7.1 out of 10. However, this was down five per cent on last year's total.

The city also came sixth on the happiness scale and seventh for safety, both also down on last year's result. No reasons were given for the decrease in satisfaction.

Swansea was deemed to be the friendliest city, Worcester the happiest, while Aberystwth took the top spot on safety, according to the data from credit lender Provident.

Perhaps unsurprisingly, London came bottom in almost every area surveyed.
