A COLLECTION of limited-edition graphics by Bob Dylan is being unveiled at a York gallery today.

Mondo Scripto features a selection of Dylan’s renowned lyrics, all handwritten and accompanied by an original pencil drawing by the Nobel Prize-winning singer-songwriter.

The body of work reflects Dylan’s tendency to return to his songs again and again, both musically and lyrically, continually tweaking and reworking them.

The collection has been released by Washington Green Fine Art and is now on sale at Castle Fine Art, in York’s Coppergate Centre, with prices starting from £1,500.

Gallery manager Felicity Whittingham said: “Mondo Scripto embodies the beginning of a new age in Bob Dylan’s visual arts journey to date, so it’s a privilege to unveil these works at our gallery.

“This collection is unlike anything we have ever seen from Dylan and we expect the graphics to sell out fast.”

In some of the graphics, it is clear that he has changed only a few lines in a song.

However, in others, including 1975’s If You See Her, Say Hello and 1979’s Gotta Serve Somebody, verses have been completely redrafted.

Though best known as a musician, Dylan is also an author, director, actor and artist. In 2016, he received the Nobel Prize for Literature.

In his foreword to the collection catalogue, American music writer and novelist, Tom Piazza, describes the works as “one of the most significant bodies of work of any creative artist in our time.

“It provides a surprisingly intimate door into each song, adding dimension, delight and insight into the artist’s relation to his own work.”
