A HAUNTING early-morning image from the Lake District is the winner of this month's Press Camera Club competition.
Phil Chalk, of New Earswick, who has been taking pictures for 30 years, captured the image of Lake Coniston at 6am on a misty morning in August.
He said: "I do a lot of camping all over Britain, which lends itself to landscape and waterscape photography.
"My images tend to be more my interpretation of a scene, bordering more towards surrealism, not so much the postcard image.
"I have a habit of only taking pictures I think will look good hanging on a wall and have a distinct lack of holiday snaps."
Phil's prize was a canvas print of the winning image, supplied by The Press Camera Club sponsors Jessops, in Coney Street, York, and a cheque for £50.
The club now has more than 1,000 members and aims to bring together talented amateur photographers to share their work, swap tips and take part in themed monthly competitions.
