Finally, after many years, the northern ring road is to get some money spent on it (Boost for plan to dual city ring road, The Press, October 2).

The Press campaign to dual is paying dividends - but let’s not forget our council’s hard work too.

The road needs dualling at least to Wigginton Road from the Hopgrove roundabouts.

If it were to stop at Haxby Road roundabout that would help a fair bit but to extend it to Wigginton Road would make more sense.

That would help alleviate all the traffic coming off the Clifton Moor industrial estate and elsewhere.

It’s nice see the council want to extend the dualling to the A19 but I doubt the government will pay for that, so aim for Wigginton Road as the terminus of the dualled section.

If the council does wish to extend the dualling to the Rawcliffe A19 roundabout, however, how about telling house building companies that if they want planning rights out of York to build new houses then they should pay at least 30 per cent of the cost of dualling the Wigginton Road roundabout to the Clifton Moor roundabout?

That would be one step closer to the A19.
