YET more anti-Brexit rhetoric from Christian Vassie, (Letters, October 1).

He asks for facts not forecasts.

I don’t know what Mr Vassie does for a living but I’m willing to bet he never made a Chocolate Orange, grain of sugar or built a railway carriage, all of which were made in York but are now imported from overseas.

These were jobs that paid a good wage; no need for minimum wage legislation here.

These industries trained young people giving them lifelong skills and while they paid their taxes and pension contributions they still had enough money at the end of the week to save for a deposit to buy a house.

Replicate this scenario throughout the land and it’s clear why 17 million people voted to leave the failing EU.

City centre tree roots will keep growing

SO at long last the city council is acknowledging that the main reason for the badly damaged slabs in Parliament Street is the trees (City centre pavement repair work, The Press, September 28).

I wonder how many years the Tarmac replacement for the slabs will be there as the trees will continue to suck up the water and their roots will continue to grow?

Ryder Cup win shows there’s no ‘I’ in ‘team’

Congratulations to Europe for regaining the Ryder Cup. The captain, players, vice-captains and caddies all bonded as one to create a magnificent victory. When PGA America analyse this devastating defeat they need only reflect on one fact: there is no ‘I’ in ‘team’.
