CITY of York Council has launched a campaign to give residents a “behind the scenes” glimpse of the work of frontline council workers.

A spokesman for the council said the authority deals with more than 300,000 queries a year and there were 21 million hits on council web pages last year.

He added the Proud to Make a Difference campaign aims to “shine a light” on the work of different teams, from waste to children’s services and city safety to adult social care.

Cllr Andrew Waller, deputy leader of the council, said: “Our frontline staff provide a range of vital services to our residents and the many visitors of York. For example, over five million waste collections are made and 6,000 potholes are repaired every year. This campaign gives people a behind-the-scenes glimpse into the daily duties carried out across the city.”

Cllr Ian Gillies, leader of the council, added: “The Proud to Make a Difference campaign carries a simple and powerful message, from those who serve our city. We want to show the public some of the many faces of the council and the huge variety of roles and services they provide us with.

“Our teams work hard to look after this city and so much of it goes unseen – it’s a great chance to uncover stories of those individuals working on the frontline.”
