YORK'S schools are being encouraged to take part in fundraising activities for a national charity event.

The BBC's Children in Need and its schools partner, educational resource publisher Twinkl, has challenged the city's youngsters to get involved with this year's campaign, which culminates in the annual telethon on Friday, November 16.

Last year, local schools, including Fishergate Primary, Huntington Primary Academy, St Oswald's CE Primary and York High School, helped raise £40, 369 for the event.

Schools can sign up for a free fundraising pack full of inspiring ideas on the fundraising page at www.bbc.co.uk/pudsey

Packs are tailored to the correct age group and contain ideas, inspiration, tools, tips and resources.

Children in Need currently supports more than 2,700 projects in communities across the UK, helping children and young people facing a range of disadvantages, disabilities and illnesses.
