POLICE said a car stolen from Heworth may have been used during a burglary in Wigginton.

The silver Ford Mondeo estate - which contained tools and had a set of ladders on the roof - was stolen from a yard in Heworth Green between 6pm and 11.30pm on Wednesday, August 22.

North Yorkshire Police said they believed the vehicle was used at about 2.50am on Sunday, August 26, when thieves broke into Creepy Crawlies in Wigginton Road and stole a safe from the premises. Half an hour later, the stolen Mondeo was found by firefighters, burnt out in Corban Lane in Wigginton.

A police spokesman said: "While making their enquiries, officers received a witness report stating that on Sunday, August 26, a blue car was seen in a ditch near the burnt out Ford Mondeo. The blue car was then seen to be towed away by another car.

"Police are appealing for the public’s assistance with their enquiries and are particularly interested to hear from anyone who witnessed the blue car being towed away from Corban Lane, where the burnt out Ford Mondeo was found, or anyone with information which would assist the investigation."
