A NEW restaurant serving modern North African food will open its doors in York next month.

Los Moros, which has run a street food stall on Shambles Food Market since 2015, has announced it will open a restaurant on Grape Lane on October 11.

Run by Tarik Abdeladim, the restaurant's menu will feature favourites such as spiced lamb sausages, called merguez, as well as new dishes like beef short rib with preserved lemons, whipped feta, and briks; small crisp pastry parcels filled with crab and deep fried. It will also feature Los Moros’ signature falafel, alongside other vegetarian and vegan dishes.

The restaurant will employ approximately 30 staff on a full and part-time basis.

Tarik said: "We’re hoping people will make Los Moros their midweek lunch spot, as well as something for a treat at the weekend. We’ve built our reputation at the stall on a sociable, informal eating experience and we want the new restaurant to continue this sense of fun and community.

“There’s a courtyard outside which will make a great day time space if people want to come in for a coffee, and we’re looking at creating a private dining room for parties too.”

The new restaurant will take the place of vegan and vegetarian restaurant El Piano, which closed in late August.

“We’re taking bookings from today by email at losmorosyork@gmail.com, and then by phone from next week once we get a phone line," Tarik said.

“The response to us opening the restaurant has been overwhelming; we’ve had some wonderful messages of support and getting ready to open is a big team effort. We’re always looking for great people to join the team so if you are interested, please do get in touch or come and see us on the stall in the Shambles Market.”

Los Moros will be open every day from noon to 10pm.

The street food stall will remain open.
