YORK City Knights' remarkable season of success has been capped off with a major QUADRUPLE award triumph.

Record-breaking scrum-half Connor Robinson was tonight named the 2018 Betfred League One Player of the Year, with boss James Ford also collecting the League One Coach of the Year award.

And to top it off, the Knights as a whole also picked up the Club of the Year and Foundation of the Year gongs.

The prestigious four-timer comes just two days after the Minster city side sealed the League One crown and sole automatic promotion spot to the Championship with victory over Whitehaven at a bouncing Bootham Crescent.

Ford's team won 24 of their 26 league matches, pipping odds-on title favourites Bradford Bulls to the title, with Robinson topping the division's points and goals-scoring charts and setting new all-time York RL records for points and goals in a season.

The 23-year-old, already voted the fans' Player of the Year, finished with 420 and 186 respectively in all competitions, smashing the marks set by Danny Brough in 2004.

The gongs were handed out at a plush 2018 Betfred Championship and League One awards ceremony in Manchester - with both Ford and Robinson having said beforehand that they would swap any personal awards for their success with the team.

Robinson's half-back partner Ben Cockayne - the veteran former Hull KR winger who has enjoyed a new lease of life in the Minster city after being switched to stand-off by Ford - had also been nominated for the Player of the Year award, along with Bradford playmaker Dane Chisholm and Workington schemer Sean Penkywicz.

Ford, meanwhile, beat Bulls boss John Kear and Workington's Leon Pryce to the Coach of the Year gong.

It was the third time Ford had been nominated, after 2017 and 2015, his maiden season in charge.

York also had a nominee in the Young Player of the Year category in winger Judah Mazive, but that accolade went to Bradford's Ethan Ryan. Brandon Pickersgill, also of the Bulls, was the other nominee.

The Knights' quadruple, nevertheless, came via the Foundation and League One Club of the Year accolades.

A statement from the Rugby Football League said the latter was in recognition of York's accomplishments "on and off the field this season".

Moreover, it comes less than two years since the club's future was in grave doubt, prior to the takeover by Jon Flatman in December 2016.

The statement added: "The Knights successfully secured promotion to the Championship for 2019 and have engaged with the local community through unique campaigns to engage with new supporters and increase crowds."

As regards the Knights Foundation - voted the best across both leagues - the RFL said: "They have made real strides through a range of educational, community and health programmes and were commended for their work in equality and diversity and the impact they are having on supporting the development of the women and girls' game."

Elsewhere, the Championship Player of the Year was Toulouse full-back Mark Kheirallah, the division's top points-scorer with 20 tries and 127 goals.

He secured the award ahead of fellow Toulouse star Johnathon Ford, Halifax captain Scott Murrell and Featherstone winger Luke Briscoe.

In his first year as London Broncos boss, Danny Ward was voted the Championship Coach of the Year, ahead of Halifax's Richard Marshall and Toulouse's Sylvain Houles. All three teams reached the Qualifiers, with London and Toulouse, along with Toronto, still in with a shout of promotion to Super League.

Sheffield’s Matt Costello was the Young Player of the Year, ahead of Harry Newman of Featherstone and Halifax’s Brandon Moore.

The Championship Club of the Year were table-toppers Toronto, while London Broncos lifted the Project of the Year Award.

The player, coach and young player awards are selected by a poll of every coach in the Championship and League One. The Club of the Year and Project of the Year awards are determined by the RFL Board, and the Foundation award by Rugby League Cares.
