JODIE Prenger will return to the Grand Opera House, York, this winter in the lead role in Abigail's Party, Mike Leigh's groundbreaking 1977 comedy.

"Abigail’s Party is a true British classic and a real bucket-list part for me," says Jodie, who will be in York from January 28 to February 2, playing party host Beverly in the only Yorkshire dates on a tour running from January 10 to April 20. "I’m thrilled to be involved in something so wonderful. Can’t wait to get started."

In Leigh's fractious, dark comedy, Beverly and her husband Laurence are throwing a party for their newlywed neighbours, Tony and Angela. Joining them will be highly strung Susan, banished from her teenage daughter Abigail's party. Welcome to 1970s' suburbia and its heady mix of free-flowing cocktails, cheese and pineapple sticks and even cheesier disco songs. As tensions rise and tempers flare, the sheen of respectability is torn away by the warring couples with potentially disastrous consequences.

I'd Do Anything talent show winner Prenger appeared previously at the Grand Opera House in Tell Me On A Sunday in April 2016 and in the title role in Calamity Jane in February 2015.
