THE EIGHTH annual Selby Jobs Fair will be held on Thursday, with more than 530 jobs on offer.

The event, organised by MP for Selby and Ainsty, Nigel Adams, will be held again at Selby College, with jobs on offer across Selby, York, Tadcaster and Harrogate.

Among those with stalls at the event are the National High Speed Rail College, who will be looking for apprentices and workers to help build the high speed HS2 and improve the existing East Coast route.

Other organisations at the event to talk to about apprenticeships are HETA, the Humber Engineering Training Agency and the National Career Service.

Employers will be at the event to discuss the roles on offer, with a care home looking to recruit somebody with banking experience, a training organisation looking for video production staff, and Autohorn - the fastest growing company in Yorkshire - who are looking for new team members to expand their vehicle leasing business.

Mr Adams said: "The number of people unemployed in Selby District has fallen by 58 per cent since I was elected in 2010.

"My first Jobs Fair was held in 2011, with one every year since then. They are well attended events and I look forward to meeting employers, job seekers and students considering their careers at this year’s event."

More than 30 companies will be in attendance, with jobs in distribution, retailing, catering, healthcare, power generation, advanced engineering and technology.

There will also be a focus on new jobs in Sherburn - which is benefitting from new factories and skilled jobs, as well as improved public transport - and a number of employers looking to fill Christmas vacancies.

North Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Service will also be looking to take on 'retained' firefighters.

The event is free to attend, and runs from 10am to 2pm.
