HUNDREDS of people strolled the streets of Upper and Nether Poppleton searching for scarecrows that were dotted around the village.

The Poppleton Scarecrow Trail was held on Saturday and Sunday, with 23 characters for people to find.

Café Refresh at the Poppleton Centre was open both days, where visitors could eat and drink before and after searching for the scarecrows.

Maps and question sheets for the trail were available at the centre, with participants encouraged to answer a question at each scarecrow.

There was also a tombola and a bouncy slide at the centre to tempt visitors. Centre manager Beth Kirkham said: “It was a big success.

“We had over 200 maps purchased - if you times that by two or three people per map we had a great turnout.

“We started this two years ago, and every year it has gone from strength to strength.”

She added: “Poppleton Scouts, Poppleton Junior Cricket Club, the Methodist Hall and Poppleton Under 5s play group all played their part in making the event a success.”
