CLASSIC tractors and other vintage vehicles rolled through the city’s streets this afternoon ahead of the York Steam Rally.

The Road Run set off from Murton Park and headed down Hull Road, Foss Islands Road, Jewbury, Lord Mayor’s Walk, Gillygate, St Leonard’s Place and Duncombe Place to York Minster where they congregated.

About 20 vintage vehicles, including tractors and traction and showman engines, took part in the Road Run.

They returned to Murton Park via Museum Street, Lendal Bridge, Station Road, Rougier Street, George Hudson Street, Micklegate, Bridge Street, Ouse Bridge, Clifford Street, Paragon Street, Barbican Road and Hull Road.

The York Steam Rally, being held on Saturday and Sunday at Murton Park, is organised by the Derwent Valley Light Railway Society (DVLRS) in conjunction with Murton Park, with all profits going to the Society.

Around 100 vehicles will be on display during the event, including classic tractors, traction and showman’s engines, monster trucks, wartime vehicles and vintage cars.

Craig Benton, event director of York Steam Rally, said: “It will be a great day out for all the family. There’s lots happening.

“It hasn’t been done for 42 years so we’re coming back after 42 years.

“Weather depending, we’re hoping it’s going to be a great turnout.”

The Rally features a weekend of entertainment with live music, including the Atlanta Country Rock American Band and vintage vocalist Paula Marie, a fairground, tractor pulling, train rides, food and a bar.

Tickets on the gate are: Adults £10, Children £7, Family ticket £30 (2 x adults 4 x children).
