A LARGE tree fell and narrowly missed a bungalow, a car aquaplaned and overturned and there were several flooding incidents, as Storm Bronagh swept across the region.

Fire crews were called to a report that a tree had fallen onto a bungalow on Parkin Avenue in Selby at around 4.50am this morning.

North Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Service said the crews arrived to find the tree had just missed the property and nobody was trapped or injured.

Meanwhile, a car came off the A166 at Gate Helmsley and ended up on its roof this morning. Traffic constable Mark Patterson said the car left the road after "aquaplaning" following heavy rain overnight. He added that the driver is not believed to be seriously injured.

Fire crews were called to this incident at around 5am. The fire service said the driver was out of the car and being treated by paramedics when the crews arrived.

In Scarborough, fire crews have dealt with several incidents of flooding overnight due to the bad weather. They assisted with pumping water away from area, diverting water, isolating appliances and making properties safe, according to the fire service.

Incidents included flooding on Westwood Road, flooding affecting several properties on Scalby Road and flooding inside a property on Trafalgar Square which was affecting electrics

Flood alerts were in place for the Lower River Wharfe at Tadcaster and Boston Spa, Lower River Ure at Ripon and Boroughbridge, River Wiske at Thirsk and Northallerton, and Lower River Swale at Leeming and Bedale, but are no longer in force.

Northern Powergrid said it restored power overnight to 19,100 customers affected by Storm Bronagh.

It added that the storm predominantly affected the Yorkshire area.

The company has continued its work from first light on repairs to overhead lines damaged by Storm Ali in Northumberland and County Durham, which has affected train services through York.
